British Heart Foundation
If you have been keeping up, you will be aware that I do the photography for The British Heart Foundation. They have a quarterly magazine called Heart Matters and they have recipe cards inside. We provide the content for these. Their recipe developer the lovely Moyra Fraser devises the recipes, split into the four seasons. Her remit is to make tasty food that is good for people who have a heart condition. So need to be low in sugar, fat and salt. Of course all of these things are what make food taste so good. So it is really a great challenge.
We also choose one recipe a season to illustrate with steps on how to make that dish. So people can try something new without getting it wrong. We work as a team with Moyra preparing the food, Kim sourcing the props, taking note of the charities signature red and grey colour scheme. She also art directs the shoots. And then of course there is me. Painting with light as I like to refer to taking photographs.
We shoot from the daylight studio in Kennigton. It takes three days to get all the photography done, and they are great fun. BHF tend to leave us to our own devices but Daniel from Wardour (the publishers) pops in just to make sure we are on song with the props etc. I love these shoots are very relaxed and we get to put a lot of our own creativity into the way they look. We usually supply a portrait shot for the recipe cards then a landscape version for their website.
If you want to have a sneak peak at what a typical day is like on this shoot I have put a small film together. Here is the link.https://vimeo.com/187157631
