Norfolk Landscapes
I was working in Norfolk earlier this week. We stayed over the night before as we had an early start. The job was shooting a tulip grower just near the Lincolnshire border by the wash.
This part of our country is all reclaimed land. In fact where the farm was used to be the coastline. It is now 4 miles in land. This is obviously great for growing as silt is very fertile.
The other factor is the landscape is very flat as it was all sea bed at one time. Glass houses are a common site in this part of the world. Going on for miles reflecting the surrounding sky they often appear almost invisible. Full of produce, mostly flowers around Norfolk they cheat Winter and mean that the seasons get smudged together.
The rain water is collected from the vast roof surface area which is then used to irrigate through out the year and even surplus to give to neighbouring farmers. But those most eyecatching for me was the skies. Well know for as they say “Big skies” they appear to go on for ever.
If you catch a great sunrise or sunset (see above) it can be stunning. Then add in the acres of glass reflecting this, the effect can be breathtaking. The day we were there we got both but in the middle it was flat dull grey. The wind swept across from the cold East with no barrier. I can imagine it is a grim place when the weather sets in.
