Sacred Gin Film

This past two weeks I have been working on a new film. To be seen early in 2017. It is of an amazing micro distillery in Highgate London. Ian left the city when the collapse started and  decided, after a few other attempts, to make Gin in his back room.

He has a chemistry background and set up a vacuum still in his sitting room. There is a picture of it above. It looks like a mad scientists lab, but in fact makes incredible gin at suprising quantities. He set up Sacred Spirits with his partner Hilary. They now make 16 different products. All produced in his home. They export all around the world. And can be found in top end shops such as Selfridges and Harrods. Thy have also chosen a few pubs to serve their gin.

It gets it name sacred from one of the botanicals used frankincense. One of Ian’s major skills is his blending of different ingredients to create his different Gins. He even has created a Christmas Pudding Gin this year. Which literally comes from the pudding.

The set up has not changed over the years and it does look a bit mad. The basic theory is that the blend boils at very low temperatures and that stops the flavours being destroyed by heat. The liquor evaprates up and is then colled down to make the Gin. That simple. The skill is getting the flavours and blends to work. He has a bonded warehouse in his garden where he keeps all his ingredients soaking in spirits until he needs them. They bottle off site now as the production has grown. He has no plans to move out of his back room as this he feels would totally change what his company stands for. I for one agree with him. This is a unique producer and should not be upscaled. It is quirky, but perfect, creating a top end product from the amazing mind inside Ian’s head.

Hopefully our film will show you a bit of what it is like to be Ian and how this amazing gin is created. Should be good to go early 2017
