It has been a while but I find myself once more in a field with my camera.
This is my happy place, this time it is just above the Scottish borders, half an hour above Berwick Upon Tweed. We are spending the day with Ian who is growning sprouts on fields clinging to the edge of the mainland with the North Sea as a back drop, dotted with ruined farm houses, quarries, castles and the odd nuclear power station. This is a tough enviroment and indeed he is tasked with testing new varieties of sprouts, as he says if they can grow here they can grow anywhere.
He loves sprouts, even as a snack while watching tv. He picks one off the stork and bites into it raw. I follow his example and it is very pleasant, fresh, nutty and crisp. They have more vitamin C than oranges and have even been oprescribed by Doctors to help in a healthy life style. Obvioulsy linked with Christmas but love or hate them (and many do hate them) he reminds me a Sprout is not just for Christmas! They are up there in my top 3 vegetable personally but I am in a minority with my family.
