New Veggie Cook book
National Trust
This lovely book is just out. On first glance you would not put it in the National Trust category. The design and art direction was a long way from the usual safe, warm cosy Trust image. We went for bold colours, stong graphic shapes.Mostly shot overhead and with a large depth of field. About as opposite to how I normally shoot food. Which to be honest was good for me. It took me out of my comfort zone and has certainly helped to expand my creative way of approaching food.
It certainly has given my portfolio a new edge to it. I love the simple design and wow factor in the images. We used a lot of papers to generate the plain blocks of colour and shot from overhead to add to the finished impact. I was also suprised that this is the direction the National Trust wanted to take this book. The designer was adamant that it should from the traditional and go for an almost popart approach. When you think of The National trust and of Vegetarian food, you come up with imasges of old kitchens, wood, brick, earthenware. well you could not be further from this in this new veggie cook book.
As you can tell I am a photographer not a cook, as I have not mentioned the recipes. i am sure they are brilliant but I am not a vegetarian, I like my meat so will probably not be using this book much in the kitchen,But it does look good, and that is half the game when it comes to cooking…. isn’t it?
If I have inspired you to go out and buy it, and I hope I have, here is the link to the book on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/190988183X
