Abstract nature

This close up of the S shape of the flamingo’s neck is full of texture. The contrast between the bright colours of the bird and the dark green of the grass are striking. In full resoloution the texture of the feathers is tangible. And taken just as an image is quite an abstract design

Early starts

This view grabbed while sat at the lights on the A5 just below the A40 flyover was taken at 7am. I had left at 05.30 am to beat the traffic. Just one downfall of working in London. However when you get the weather it does have its rewards. Maybe I should be photographing buildings instead?

Spring in the woods

I try to get to these woods each year. They are at Coton Manor Gardens near me. I have photographed their bluebells so many times. Managing to get them into Country Living Magazine once. I noticed there were far fewer flowers this year. I started my career as a garden photgrpaher and it is great to go back now and again.

Scandi style

I love this ph0tograph. Taken the same time as the Christmas ones previously posted. this epitimises what I am in terms of food photography. It is clean, simple, shallow depth of field and all about the food. It also shows you the different looks you can get from the same location and same window.

Pink Lady

This is rather apt as today the pink lady food photographer of the year goes on show in the Mall galleries. I am a finalist but at the point of writing this have no idea how well I have done. I am presuming just  a finalist. The point of this Christmas cake is these lovely pink lady apple crisps decorating the cake. So simple to do yet make a great topping, and healthy too.

Awards evening

Last night was the gala evening for the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Award at the Mall galleries London. I was a finalist in the “Food in the Field” category (see above). A great evening lots of free champagne courtesy of Tatinger one of the sponsors. A great collection of photographs and lovely to see mine amongst them. My picture is a field of sprouts taken up in Yorkshire for Morrissons magazine.

More Christmas

This time it is filo pastry mince pies. But made with apples and dates. As this was for the British Heart Foundation they had to be healthy. They tasted lovely and yet are not bad for you. We were allowed a teaspoon of icing sugar on the tops. Working for a health organisation does throw up challenges. It is hard to get worthy food to a. taste good and b. look appealing. I feel thanks to Moyra Fraser’s great recipes and foosd styling and prop stylist Kim Sullivan we managed to tick both boxes here.

Christmas allready

This is my first Christmas shoot this year, much earlier than usual. We normally work in Christmas in July and August. This delicious Christmas Pudding Ice Cream is for the BHF charity. It is low fat and low sugar but tastes totally yummy. Just like the real thing but ice cold. Really easy to make. A must for this Christmas

Food stylist

Our food writer and stylist extrodinaire Denise Smart is seen here taking time out to stretch. She has written the recipes and is now styling our second Spiraliser book. The first one was in the top ten non fiction book charts for an age and has bee reprinted several times. This book will look lovely thanks to all our hard work. She has had a tough few weeks working on this and other projects and like me spending 4 hours a day at least commuting to the studio.
